I have been loving Skype since 2.0 was released. Skype is not just useful for making free calls to other friends from PC to PC, but it also controls my sites voicemail setup, so visitors can leave messages for free if they have Skype themselves or by calling my Skype In account (UK: –THIS NUMBER IS NO LONGER USED, SORRY– or Worldwide: –THIS NUMBER IS NO LONGER USED, SORRY–).
I have been using Skype 2.5 beta more recently and the facility to send SMS messages (mobile text messages) online is just an awesome and cost affective addition. Usually it costs me 10p to send a text message on my phone (Pay as you go), but with Skype’s new SMS feature, I can send to anyone in the United Kingdom for around 5p to 6p and more importantly for me, I don’t have to painstakingly use a mobile phones buttons to enter the message.
New features in Skype 2.5 include:
- Easier to call ordinary phones
- Send SMS messages
- View and call Outlook contacts directly
- Buy Skype credit more easily
I am pleased to see now though, that Skype 2.5 has left beta status and is now available for everyone to enjoy. If you have a headset, you really do need to get Skype for communicating with your friends online for free.
