Software Backing Up – Poor Importing and Exporting Options

importexport.jpgUnfortunately from time to time, I have to re-install Windows to get everything running top notch again, however many of my most favourite applications fail to have adequate export options or even worse none at all. Because of this I am finding that to save time and sparing myself the grief, I am turning away from applications on my PC and instead looking to web based alternatives.

One such alternative is Google Reader, which provides an online, always accessible list of all the most visited websites I frequent, displaying the latest news and discussions. It is by no means my preferred option, however I do require something that isn’t going to let me down and more importantly will remember all my settings regardless of re-installations.

So my message to software developers is simple. Please provide simple and effective export and import options for your applications, so myself and others can enjoy your software advantages time and time again without worrying about lost settings and content.

I don’t desire entering registry settings, browsing Windows Explorer for files or following laborious instructions to protect my data. The Internet is providing more and more solutions for everyone, please don’t lose us completely.

  • A very good point, it’s for this reason that I utlimately moved to using the GMail webpage interface rather than Outlook – it was too much hassle moving files around everytime I re-formatted!
