ScummVM v1.0.0 – Point and Click Adventuring Continues Forward in Momentous Release

ScummVM LogoI am a massive fan of point and click adventure games and although there was a spell where developers seemed to avoid the genre like the plague, there is certainly a noticeable return with titles such as Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Simon the Sorcerer, Beneath A Steel Sky and others appearing with either remastered or brand new stories. These are popping up on various gaming platforms both through our larger power house consoles and even portable devices including our mobile phones. There is no escaping the charm of Point and Click Adventure gaming and now we can, and should, celebrate the release of v1.0.0 of ScummVM.

samandmaxScummVM allows you to experience and rekindle your passion for this most entrancing of genres, that can literally take you to another feeling of enjoyment. Compatible on plenty of platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Dreamcast, PocketPC, PalmOS, AmigaOS, BeOS, OS/2, SymbianOS and many more.

Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more.

bokenswordThe beauty of ScummVM continues as you can if you desire add graphical filters to enhance the graphics for today’s higher resolution screens and of course my own ScummVM Music Enhancement Project allows you to utilise a standard set of external music files for use within the game increasing music quality for titles such as Simon the Sorcerer, Inherit the Earth and Discworld.

I personally like to believe that ScummVM is part of the reason why Point and Click Adventure gaming has made such a succesful return recently and for this I would like to thank and congratulate all the developers of ScummVM for all their hard work. They have literally allowed our dreams to come true, revisiting our special memories and reliving the joy that this genre can only produce.

Thank you!
