The Playlist

The playlist is the running list of tracks PXR plays through, and it slides out as a tidy drawer beside the main player. Think of it as your queue for the evening.

Show or hide it with ⌘2 (Display → Show/Hide Playlist).

Adding tracks#

Drag and drop files or whole folders onto the playlist or the window. Folders are scanned for MIDI files, and you can drop a saved .m3u playlist to import it too.
File → Add to Playlist (⌘⇧O) to pick files without replacing what is loaded.
The Add button in the playlist toolbar does the same.

When you drop a folder, a small loading panel shows the progress, and you can cancel it if you change your mind.

Playing from the playlist#

Double-click a track to play it.
PXR auto-advances to the next track when one finishes, so you can set it going and leave it be.
Combine with shuffle (⌘⇧S) and repeat (⌘⇧R) from the transport.

Selecting tracks#

Click a track to select it, or Shift-click and ⌘-click to build up a selection for bulk actions, such as adding several tracks to the queue at once.

Select every track by right-clicking and choosing Select All.
Once everything is selected, that same menu item reads Deselect All to clear the selection again.
Right-click any track for more actions: file info, reveal in Finder, add to the queue, play next, and remove. With several tracks selected, add to queue, play next and remove all act on your whole selection.

Finding and sorting#

Search: click the search icon in the playlist header to reveal a search box and filter the list by filename.
Sort: the Sort button in the toolbar reorders the list.
Format filter chips: the stats bar at the bottom shows chips for each format present (GM, GS, XG, and so on). Click a chip to show only tracks of that format. The bar also shows the track count and total duration.

Reordering and removing#

Drag a track up or down to reorder it.
The Clear button empties the playlist, after a quick confirmation. If music is playing, Clear also silences any hanging notes.

Note

Clearing the playlist only empties the list shown in PXR. Your MIDI files, and any saved .m3u playlist, stay on disk untouched.

The now-playing strip#

At the bottom of the drawer, the now-playing panel shows off the current track's cover art, format badge, title, copyright, and live tempo and time signature. Click the cover art to open it full size.

Saving and loading playlists#

Built a running order you would like to keep? You can save it and bring it back later.

Export Playlist (⌘⇧E, File → Export Playlist) saves the current list to a file you can keep or share.
Import Playlist (⌘⇧I, File → Import Playlist) loads a saved playlist. Standard .m3u playlists are also supported. If your playlist already has tracks, PXR asks whether to add the imported tracks to them or replace what is there.
File → Recent Playlists lists the last 15 playlists you have opened.
PXR also appears in Finder's Open With menu for .m3u files, so you can open a saved playlist, or set PXR as its app, straight from Finder.
