Opening Files
There are several ways to get a MIDI file into PXR, so you can use whichever suits the moment.
From within PXR#
- File → Open (
⌘O) opens a file and plays it, adding it to the playlist rather than clearing what is already there. If the file is already in the list, PXR simply jumps to it. - File → Add to Playlist (
⌘⇧O) adds one or more files to the end of the playlist without interrupting what is playing. - File → Open Recent lists the last 15 files you have opened, so you can jump back to one quickly. Picking one adds it to the playlist and plays it, just like Open.
You can select several files at once in either dialog, and PXR will take them all.
Tip
Your recently played files also appear when you right-click PXR's icon in the Dock, a handy shortcut back to a recent track.
Drag and drop#
Drag one or more files, or a whole folder of them, from Finder straight onto the PXR window. A "Drop to add to playlist" banner appears as you hover, and the tracks join the playlist when you let go.
Straight from Finder#
PXR plays Standard MIDI Files (.mid, .midi) and karaoke files (.kar), and it registers with macOS as able to open them.
- Double-click a
.mid,.midior.karfile and, if PXR is set as the default for that type, it opens there. - To make PXR the default, right-click a MIDI file in Finder, choose Get Info, set Open with to PXR MIDI Player, and click Change All.
- PXR also appears in Finder's Open With menu for
.m3uplaylist files, so you can open a saved playlist from Finder, or set PXR as its app, without it taking over.m3ufrom your audio apps.
