MIDI Input
PXR is not just for listening. It can receive notes from a connected MIDI keyboard or controller, which is what drives Performance Mode and lets you play along with whatever you load.
Set this up in Settings → MIDI Input (⌘,).
Choosing an input source#
Picking your keyboard takes a single click:
- The tab lists every connected MIDI input device. Click one to make it the active input. A green check marks the current choice.
- Only one input source is active at a time. Click it again to disconnect.
- Use Refresh if you plugged something in after opening the tab and it has not appeared yet.
What MIDI input is used for#
- Performance Mode: notes you play on the keyboard sound through PXR to your output device, and light up the on-screen keyboard.
- Playing along with a file: route your keyboard through PXR while a song plays.
In Performance Mode, your incoming notes are remapped to the selected channel, while channel 10 (drums) passes through unchanged.
Preset-controlled input#
If you are using a multi-port preset that pins a particular input device, the MIDI Input tab will let you know the preset is in charge of the input choice. Not to worry though, you can still override it from this tab whenever you like.
