Compact Player
The Compact Player is a small, square now-playing window with a glowing meter behind the controls. It is the most pared-back of the player views, focused on the current track rather than the playlist, so it is simpler than both the full window and the Mini Player. It works well on a second monitor or tucked into a corner while you work.
- Open or close it with
⌘8(Display → Show Compact Player).
What it shows#
- The track title, large and softly glowing.
- A spec line with the format, tempo, time signature and file size, for example
XG MU100+ | 136 BPM | 4/4 | 99 KB. When PXR can tell which sound module a file was written for, that designation rides alongside the format, so you might seeGS SC-88PRO,GS SC-8850orXG MU100+, with aPLGtag when the file uses an expansion board. GM and MT-32 files just show the format on its own. - The format logo (GM, GS, XG or MT-32) sitting beside the times.
- Current and total time either side of a slim progress bar you can drag to seek.
- A transport row: Queue, Previous, Play/Pause, Next and Shuffle. The Queue and Shuffle icons light up when a queue is waiting or shuffle is on.
- Behind it all, a 16-channel meter rendered as glowing royal-blue LED segments. It reacts exactly like the main visualiser and carries peak-hold caps, just like the Mixer's meters.
- For GS and XG files, a small EQ curve in the top-left showing the equaliser shaped by the file.
- A POLY readout in the top-right showing how many voices are sounding at once. It stays on screen even when playback is paused, so you can always see it at a glance.
Keep it on top#
The pin button in the top-right keeps the Compact Player floating above your other apps, which is handy when you want to keep an eye on playback from another program. It is on by default, and PXR remembers your choice.
Make it see-through#
Just left of the pin is a small transparency button, a half-filled circle showing a percentage. Click it to cycle the whole window through a few levels of transparency, so your desktop shows through while playback carries on behind whatever you are working on. Scroll over the button to fine-tune the amount. It never fades away entirely, so the controls always stay clickable, and PXR remembers where you left it.
Size it to suit#
The Compact Player has its own zoom, separate from the rest of the app. Use the - and + buttons at the top of the window, either side of the percentage readout, to step it between 50% and 150%. Because it is independent of the app's zoom, you can have the Compact Player nice and large on a second screen while the main window stays small. PXR remembers the size you choose.
