The Sony PlayStation (commonly referred now as the PS1) released in 1994 in Japan and worldwide in 1995 going head to head with the SEGA Saturn. Far easier for a developer to work with than its SEGA counterpart, the PlayStation with its cheaper launch price stormed ahead bringing Sony well and truly into the 3D console gaming market with gusto. The PlayStation brand is now synonymous with gamers and this is where it all began.
