Nintendo DS Lite – I Couldn’t Resist!

nintendodslite.jpgAt the weekend, I had a very good chance to compare the Nintendo DS Lite and the Sony PSP handheld consoles. I fancied a handheld for portability, but really couldn’t decide, so having them side by side with a good selection of games really did help my final decision. Both consoles were good, but one stood out far more than the other…

The Nintendo DS Lite is perfectly sized, sexy and more importantly, the games are amazing. Having tried New Super Mario Bros, Worms and Mario Kart, I was utterly and completely hooked. The dual screen really does add something to the games, even ones brought back from the past revamped and the touch screen makes it very easy to navigate and select menu items.

The Sony PSP I found a little large as it tried to accommodate the widescreen display for the movies available. The controls were a little fiddly especially the analog stick, but what really put me off this device was the UMD format. I couldn’t help but notice the gap on the back of one of the disks that could easily have you touching it, possibly causing problems reading it in the future. The Sony PSP is a nice device, but the Nintendo DS Lite has everything I needed at a very affordable price.

I should be spending the rest of today playing Mario Kart online, but I really look forward to meeting up with some friends, who also have a Nintendo DS to try some multiplayer gaming.

  • The dual screen reminds me of the Donkey Kong III minicomputer thingy I had. Played it till my tumbs hurt :)

  • Yes but you still need to get an Xbox 360 before worrying about a Nintendo DS Lite.

  • You made an excellent choice! I own a DS, but not a DS Light. I kinda wish I had waited, I new and updated version was inevitable (like all things Nintendo) but I just couldn’t wait. However, had you bought the PSP I would have to have slapped you! J/K :P

Seriously though, you did make a good choice. I purchased a PSP almost a year ago now and I actually just sold it for another PS2 over the weekend (I had sold my previous PS2 a few years ago). I hated the PSP. It was awesome for all of 2 or 3 months, then reality hits that there aren’t any really good games for it out now, or coming soon for that matter. It was a waist of my money IMO, now I’m on my PS2 playing God of War and Guitar Hero and couldn’t be happier. :d

  • Well I have had my Nintendo DS Lite for 24 hours now and I am loving every minute of it. Before trying this portable gaming handheld, I never had any desire to by a portable before, however I am glad I have now.

In fact now I have ordered Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3 seeing as it is capable of playing GBA games as well!

  • Glad I could help persuade you. I bought a DS, and have since sold that to a friend and purchased a DS Lite and never looked back. 3 of us spend most nights up late playing Bomberman on a single cart but three DS’s!
