Love of Retro Gaming & Modern Tech

Do you miss such games, which had an arcade feel, and made you wonder why such a silly game was so much fun. Well your desires may just be fulfilled with this offering. Mr Driller is an interesting title to say the least but basically the name says it all. The idea of the game is toโ€ฆ wellโ€ฆ.drill!

Although only supporting a few resolutions this game will run on a reasonable spec computer and still add enjoyment for many hours. With many strong vibrant colours and a very pleasing playing environment, even us grown ups will enjoy the graphics of this one.

Anyone remember a classic game called columns. Well if you didnโ€™t here is a quick recap for you. Based loosely on Tetris this game had a good all round offering of interest and desire to get higher scores. As PC games evolve the scoring the number of kills you could achieve had typically replaced system of old.

Few games now include such a scoring system that requires you to push yourself to the point of insanity like the classics but now Mr Driller having the old style gaming platform and the scoring system that was wisely used for many years has now made a comeback.

So does it work in the modern world of gaming. The quick answer is yes. The game style itself is lacking originality but the concept and the new twist works so well anyway you donโ€™t notice many of the minor flaws.

It’s one of those games you don’t want to show other people, or you’ll never see your beloved machine again due to your friends taking over and trying to beat your high score.

The best way to describe both these aspects is that itโ€™s a laugh, the intro words of โ€˜Mr Drillerโ€™ spoken at an incredibly high pitched voice is so high that even your pet may hide for cover and cover his ears with their little paws. This is not a game to be taken too seriously, itโ€™s good fun and has enough positive points to keep you drilling away until you finally reach the bottom.
