Mega Drive / Genesis

The SEGA Mega Drive released in 1988 in Japan, 1989 as the SEGA Genesis in North America and finally in Europe (again known as the Mega Drive) in 1990. The dawn of 16-bit graphics with what was marketed as Blast Processing – the SEGA Mega Drive featured many titles that were ports of popular arcade hits including Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Outrun and many more. The Mega Drive also was the initial home of SEGA’s most famous mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA also released add-on gaming hardware to expand the capabilities, the Mega CD (SEGA CD) and the 32X, but neither were supported in the same way the core Mega Drive enjoyed.
