One of the best resources for information when considering a creation of your own is to chat with friends. I am sure we have all been there, huddled around a few of the latest phones among a group of people, sharing our favourite apps.

Use these types of gatherings to acquire knowledge you can then use yourself. In the past, you may have taken the information to make a rapid purchase and that was all, however now is the time to really pay attention.

Ask them:

  • What is the function?
    See if their explanation matches the description within the app itself.
  • Why is it useful to them?
    Is it really a tool that can offer a true function or are they captivated by another element without even realising.
  • Why is this app better than a rival version?
    Is it a price difference, is the presentation superior, are there more obvious features or is it just a matter of taste?
  • Does it invoke an emotion?
    Does the app add a rewarding experience over any existing traditional means?
  • How did they hear about the app?
    A website review, word of mouth, featured app etc.

All of this and any questions you feel are pertinent to your ideas will offer insights into the motivation behind an app purchase.
