App Creation #20 – App Inspiration – Postman

Travelling to faraway lands, seeking new adventure, tasting the local cuisine and experiencing the wonders of the surroundings are all part of our jet setting lifestyle.

With technology literally jammed into our pockets, we for some reason still insist on the old tried and tested traditions of purchasing a postcard.

Going Digital

There are many advantages when you move into the digital realm, steering away from the various slow analogue horrors. Whenever I write a postcard – even with a few notes at hand – I always seem to miss out a letter or my pen starts running out, leaving one half of the postcard black and the other half blue.

Going digital ensures that I can check for any mistakes before I send the postcard and take advantage of the rich customisation on offer in this the ‘Postman’ app. You can now expect a picture of Aunt Mabel with a melting ice cream dripping on to her lap, featured prominently on the front of the postcard rather than a shot of the local landmarks if you are really unlucky.

Customisation

Both the front and the rear of the postcard can be finely tuned to your preferences.

With a selection of themes to choose from that offer various settings including the traditional postcard look, newspaper report, old fashioned television, a simple vignette and more.

You can then insert one of your own photography gems within the setting, add text and adjust as needed.

All that is left is to type in the all important titbit of how poor the weather has been and how much you are missing Doug the Pug, your smelly yet loving canine friend, who you have left with an unfortunate family member.

Post Haste

I bet you have all experienced this at one time or another… Your relations have returned from holiday and you have popped over for a cuppa and a cake – in which they detailed all their holiday shenanigans while presenting their two hundred strong photo slideshow. Sigh! Upon returning home, picking up the morning post that has landed on the floor – you notice a postcard with an extremely abridged version of events you just moments before heard in person. Why does this happen!

Thankfully with the Postman app, you have multiple choices of delivery and relying on the postal services is thankfully not an option. Instead, you can post your custom creations on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, email or just save the image to your phone for later use. This way you can enjoy immediate gratification when sharing your holiday exploits.
