I have been captivated by musical instruments from a very young age, inspired by the creativity you enjoy from the outstretched reach of your fingertips.
One of the most classical, yet still current forms of expression rests with those once ivory keys. They have evolved over the centuries, although having a grand piano placed on your lap isn’t exactly practical…
Until now that is.
Key to Success
One of the key areas of a digital piano or keyboard is its polyphony capability. Polyphony is the number of notes you can hear at any one time and as the Virtuoso app uses not one virtual keyboard but two, my expectations were pretty low. My concerns were unnecessary as I was able to play both chords and a melody line simultaneously – with very few individual notes missing their cue.
Compose Yourself
When I tinker on the piano – as someone who composes music for games – the inspirational moment is vital when creating your musical masterpiece. Often this is achieved by quite frankly having a bit of a lark, conducting numerous progressions and variations, by a sheer moment of genius or even admittedly luck. Striking the right chord can in an instant motivate an entire score.
My real-life fully featured keyboard unfortunately wasn’t designed to sit on my lap either – who would have expected it to. Virtuoso, although a fairly basic representation, provides plenty of the core characteristics to encourage your imagination to flow with different melodies – proving its worth as not just a plaything, but an actual musical production tool.
Two Much Fun
With two virtual keyboards displayed, the entire screen becomes your fun factory, however pressing the ‘Duette’ button flips one of the keyboards a full 180 degrees – allowing two aspiring musicians to take either side of the tablet device and share in the revelry.
